HICAP offers both LIVE In-Person Welcome to Medicare classes and LIVE Welcome to Medicare class via Zoom Video Conferencing. In both live classes you can interact with the instructor and ask questions. We also offer self-paced online Welcome to Medicare videos. All classes are specifically designed for Contra Costa residents.
Welcome to Medicare is a free HICAP class designed for those new to Medicare.
You will learn the following:
- When and how to enroll in Medicare
- Basic Medicare benefits and costs
- Medicare alphabet soup and what A-B-C-D means
- Medicare supplemental (Medigap) plans
- Medicare Advantage plans (HMOs)
- Prescription drug plans
- Coordination with other health insurance including employer plans, retirement plans, VA, and COBRA
Our Welcome to Medicare class is popular. Registration is required for class attendance. No products are sold or endorsed.

LIVE classes via ZOOM videoconferencing
Live Welcome to Medicare, via ZOOM, requires you to have a computer, laptop, tablet, or smart phone in order to connect to the class. You do NOT need a camera or microphone. You will receive information on how to connect to the class, via e-mail, once you have registered. The class is one to one-and-a-half hours long.
